About Sharad Purnima
Sharad Purnima is the full moon of autumn and is considered the most luminous moon of the year. It is believed that on this night, the moon showers amrit (nectar) and Lakshmi walks the earth. This is also the night of Raas Leela — Krishna's divine dance with the Gopis.
🎉 Traditions & Customs
Kheer (rice pudding) is kept outdoors overnight in moonlight and eaten the next morning as prasad (moonlit kheer is believed to have healing properties). Families sit on rooftops enjoying moonlit night. White garments are worn. Temples are lit up.
🌾 In Haryana & Mundakhera
Sharad Purnima kheer is a beloved tradition in Haryana villages. Families prepare large pots of kheer and place them on rooftops or in courtyards. Morning prasad distribution to neighbors is common.
