PassedAbout Teej (Hariyali)
Hariyali Teej celebrates the union of Shiva and Parvati and the onset of the monsoon season. It is primarily a women's festival celebrated on Shravan Shukla Tritiya. Women pray for marital bliss, a happy married life, and the well-being of their husbands.
🎉 Traditions & Customs
Women observe a day-long fast (nirjala — no water). They wear green clothes (symbolizing monsoon freshness), apply henna (mehendi), and wear bangles. Swings (jhoola) are tied on trees and women sing monsoon songs while swinging. Gavar ki sabzi and ghewar (sweet) are traditional dishes. Puja of Goddess Parvati is performed.
🌾 In Haryana & Mundakhera
Teej is considered Haryana's most beloved women's festival. Newly married women (navvadhus) receive new clothes and gifts from their in-laws' home. The Haryana government organizes state-level Teej melas. In Mundakhera, women gather in groups in the evening, wearing green or yellow suits, singing Teej songs (teej ke geet).
🌙 Panchang Notes
