Living Culture of Mundakhera
Mundakhera is a proud carrier of Haryanvi folk traditions — a culture known for its earthy humor, powerful folk songs (ragini), energetic dances, and deeply rooted festival celebrations.
Folk Music — Ragini & Saang
The ragini is the soul of Haryanvi music — a call-and-response folk song form sung at weddings, festivals, and community events. Mundakhera has produced respected ragini singers who perform at village fairs (melas) across the district.
The Saang is a traditional folk theatre form combining music, dance, and mythological storytelling. During winter months, Saang troupes perform in the village chaupaal through the night.
Traditional Dances
- Dhamal — energetic group dance performed by men during Holi
- Phag — women's folk dance during the spring festival season
- Ghoomar — circular group dance at weddings
Major Festivals
Holi is the biggest festival in Mundakhera — celebrated with Haryanvi-style phag songs, gulal, and dahi-bade. Diwali sees every house lit with diyas, and the village hosts a small fair. Teej is particularly significant for women — swings are tied to trees and folk songs are sung.
Haryanvi Language
The local dialect spoken in Mundakhera is Haryanvi (sometimes called Bangaru) — a dialect of Hindi with distinctive words, proverbs (kahavats), and expressions. Phrases like "teri tharo", "chakkar bhi bane", and "lugai" (wife) are part of everyday speech.
